My Day with Zachary

How does playing with my grandson all day and marital issues have anything in common? Nothing really, but I learned something very valuable today when I was getting my grandson dressed. As I put his jumper over his head, then his right arm, then I sat him up to pull it down over his body, it didn't take long and I realized that I had forgotten the other arm. Then, it occurred to me from the last time we were together, that as one should never go into a burning building without your partner, not to mention making sure you both get out safely, so a shirt or a jumper is made with two arm holes and two leg holes for a reason.

I must admit, in the last year and half our marriage has been less then pleasant, for either of us. And, if God had given us a ticket out, one or the other probably would have taken it. Not that we didn't love each other, because we did, and still do, but we had 'gone our separate ways' for some time and it was becoming increasingly painful with the same problems that we went to bed with.

But, God saw fit, because of His grace and mercy to keep us together in spite of ourselves.
Though we are far from out of the woods, we're no where we once were.
Do I want to knock his block off? Yes most definitely, because he's a man. Does he still need to flee from this harsh tongue? That too is a resounding, yes.
Sadly, I have a hard time keeping track of it! It seems to have a mind of it's own. Mr. Tongue likes to wander all over my face and down my leg and up my husbands with lightning speed. Before I know it this small 'harmless' creature has left big red welts on my husbands handsome face, as so many of do if we were honest with ourselves.

But as our lashing tongues go wild and our husbands shrink, we find ourselves with a false sense of superiority, which causes men to run.

These are but some lessons I'm learning during this time of strife and friction. Though this is only a part of what I've seen, in our own person lives and in the lives of many others, we must not forget there are some who are going through far worse trials then these.

"Lord, I pray according to Your Word in Romans 15, that, "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." in Jesus' Name I pray. amen

I wonder,

why so many marriages are in trouble today. I wonder why so many men mistreat their wives. I wonder why so many wives feel so insecure in their marriages. I wonder what's not being taught in our churches and why there is so much dysfunction on our families. Or, is it all the churches fault, or is there some personal responsibility involved here?

During my quiet time this morning, I got to thinking how often mom and I talked about the Book of Titus, chapter 2 to be exact. Where it says, "But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: 2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. 6 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,[
But, what so often happens in today's world of utter selfishness, is that men are often NOT sober, and women are NOT obedient. Both are spinning out of control listening to their flesh and not the Spirit of the Living God.
But, what Titus falls short of in it's literal teaching of God's Word is Peter's admonition to husband's, 7 "Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered."
Somewhere along the way, there is something broken. Men feel abandoned in the relationship, feeling small. Feeling it's their right to use the 'submit' word out of the Bible to bring their wives to their way of thinking instead of submitting out of love, giving them the power to be tyrants. And wives, do what they want with little regard on how it effects their covering, (their own husbands).

I have to admit, I have been guilty of that very same thing. Not intentionally 'doing my own thing' but somewhere I have lost my way on how to interact with my own husband. And, quite frankly it happens more and more, and will so as the days grow darker.

I challenge everyone who reads this blog, especially those who are going through marriage problems to get a hold of Fireproof, the movie. For we live in dark days, and we cannot leave the burning building without our partners!

Faint of Heart,

"Matthew 8:23-27"

"Cowards!" Have you ever been called either of these? Well, the disciples sure did after waking up the Master.

And I can't say I blame them either, for I realized this morning, I too failed the test. That I fell victim, like so many, to becoming faint hearted when trails come my way.

As a woman of prayer, I have been known to be a successful instrument in the Lord's hands, but lately I have failed at the most important of tasks, ministering to my own husband. I have fasted for him, and have prayed for him, have exhorted him and even invested in website building to sell his extraodinary paintings, but, nothing has worked.

Maybe, the Lord is trying to tell me that I have going about everything all wrong, maybe I've been doing it all in my own flesh, maybe He just wants me to trust Him.

Even when times are really tough, God, wants me to step back and get on my face before Him and surrender to His plan and not my own.

"Lord, I admit I've been a coward, please rebuke the wind and the rain once again, and restore us back to that peaceful place in You. A sanctuary built not by human hands, but by the Living God."

A.W. Tozer

What is it about A.W. Tozer that intrigues both young and old alike? Seasoned Christians and new in the faith? Who was called, 'one of the greatest saints of the past century.' Wow, what a badge of honor in a sea of great men and women of faith.

But, what is it about Pastor Tozer that draws people to his writings and prayers?

I'd say, his wisdom and  his prayer life.

I'll leave you with one of his prayers:

"O God, I have tasted Thy goodness and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune god, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, so that I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.” Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long.

In Jesus’ name, Amen…………"

Prayer Vigil

What I learned during these seventeen days of prayer on Intercessor's Heart is that you cannot please everybody. That in prayer, it is our goal to please God and not man. For that's a hard lesson for me to learn for I'm a real people-pleas er. The gift of mercy I've been blessed with sometimes overrides my judgment and I find myself trying to please man, not God, or trying too hard to do for others what they can do for themselves which often cripples them which gets me into hot water with God.

But, I have found a ray of sunshine half way through our vigil, and that is, to depend on God and not on man which hasn't been so easy for me. You see, I'm a deeply flawed individual that often stumbles through life, (at times finds herself even crawling), towards a Promised Land.

But I cannot ignore certain things God has put in my spirit to do, such as reaching out to intercessors all over the world that need a sanctuary during a time of weakness. For we all become weak, we all are imperfect, we all are flawed. For the Bible says, " As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one."

There are many times, I see Christians who seem to have it all together, but we don't realize is that those in authority are hurting too, they just can't show it like we can, so they come off rough or insensitive or uncaring, and without knowing it they wound, and the cycle continues.

But the Bible says, we are all one under Christ, some are mouths, and some are hands, others are the feet, but we all need each other.

How do we fix the problem? We all recognize that we all need each other, that there is no one more important than another, that no matter what function we are given we cannot walk the Christian life  without each other, whether you are in the 'ministry' or a worker in the nursery, a janitor or an elder, we are all one under Christ, because He is in all and works through all.

Let's pray that we, the body of Christ will begin to function well, and function in love.

A.W. Tozer

First, a heartfelt apology,

It's been some time since my last entry, for I've been working night and day on a prayer vigil on the facebook ministry; where we are seeking God's face for the direction of our ministry, which this is an extension of. When I started, this event, I had a simple plan in mind, but when it was complete, it became far more extensive then I could have imagined. Today, the 1st was the beginning of this event, and it will last through throughout this month. Those who follow this blog are more than welcome to join us. Let me know you are interested, and I will see to it that you become a part of what God is doing through Intercessor's Heart/Facebook.

A.W. Tozer? Some would ask, 'why anybody would put Kathryn Kuhlman and A.W. Tozer in the same series?' And my answer to that is, because, both of them are extraordinary people of prayer, and have contributed much to the Body of Christ as a whole. You may or may not agree with Pastor Tozer, but one thing is for sure, he started a movement that should be explored. For the discerning, we are fully capable of separating truth from error, but, if read through each contribution, you will see that I tried to limit the errors the best I could.

A Closed Mouth and Silent Heart

My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue.— Psalm 39:3

'Prayer among evangelical Christians is always in danger of degenerating into a glorified gold rush. Almost every book on prayer deals with the “get” element mainly. How to get things we want from God occupies most of the space. Now, we gladly admit that we may ask for and receive specific gifts and benefits in answer to prayer, but we must never forget that the highest kind of prayer is never the making of requests. Prayer at its holiest moment is the entering into God to a place of such blessed union as makes miracles seem tame and remarkable answers to prayer appear something very far short of wonderful by comparison.' He is risen, He is risen INDEED!!!

Though we've been walking down memory lane, I felt it was important to take a few minutes to acknowledge what the Lord did for us over 2000 years ago.

What the prophets were unable to do, Jesus, the Son fulfilled as God and fully man.

1 Peter 1:  10Concerning this salvation,(A) the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11inquiring(B) what person or time(C) the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating(D) when he predicted(E) the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12(F) It was revealed to them that(G) they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you(H) by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven,(I) things into which angels long to look.
Called to Be Holy
13Therefore,(J) preparing your minds for action,[a] and(K) being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As obedient children,(L) do not be conformed to the passions(M) of your former ignorance, 15but(N) as he who called you is holy, you also be holy(O) in all your conduct, 16since it is written,(P) "You shall be holy, for I am holy." 17And if you(Q) call on him as Father who(R) judges(S) impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves(T) with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18knowing that you(U) were ransomed from(V) the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19but(W) with the precious blood of Christ, like that of(X) a lamb(Y) without blemish or spot."

Because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross, we can live free from the tyranny of sin!   Halleluiah!

Kathryn Kuhlman, Part 3

This is the final in this series of this extraordinary woman of faith.

We have seen what others have said about her, now, let's look at what she has said about herself.

"The world called me a fool for having given my entire life to One whom I’ve never seen. I know exactly what I’m going to say when I stand in His presence. When I look upon that wonderful face of Jesus, I’ll have just one thing to say: ‘I tried.’ I gave of myself the best I knew how. My redemption will have been perfected when I stand and see Him who made it all possible. "

Also,

  • "The foundation of this ministry is God's word."

  • "I'm yielded to Jesus to be filled with the holy Spirit."

  • "The same gift the Father gave to the Son the Son in turn gave to his own".

  • And again,

"I surrendered unto Him all there was of me; everything! Then for the first time I realized what it meant to have real power."

    Lastly,

"I have little faith in a great God.
It wasn't luck or influence. It was just hard work - and God's providence.
Nobody enjoys being a Christian more than I do. I wouldn't exchange it for anything else I know anything about.
The greatest power that God has given to any individual is the power of prayer.
Think big, talk big, act big. Because we have a big God."

The Prayer Life of Kathryn Kulman, Part 2

[Before we go into the subject at hand, I thought it important to re-address an important issue we discussed last time.  Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7, that he wished all men would be like him, (unmarried), but if they can't, marry so they don't burn with passion, (verses 7-9). It's a well known fact, that Ms. Kuhlman believed from the very beginning, she was never meant to get married, but when she fell in love and later married, brought nothing but problems into her life.]

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."   (Phil 4:4-7)

    A Life of Continual Prayer,
Best describes Kathryn Kuhlman for those who knew her best, and there have been several who boast that they were ‘called’ to emulate her because, of how she’s impacted them personally, but those who have walked in her shadows will not be mentioned, for I believe, she stands alone.
Kathryn would spend eight hours in prayer before each and every service. She would cry out to God, asking that the Holy Spirit would move and touch the lives of the people who were coming. She felt a tremendous burden for the people, and knew that she in herself could do nothing for them; hence her prayer time.
It all started one Sunday when Kathryn was fourteen; she attended church with her mother in the Methodist Church of Concordia, Missouri. As she stood singing, she began to shake all over and sob. A weight of conviction came over her, and she realized that she was a sinner in need of salvation and forgiveness. She slipped out from where she was standing, went to the corner of the front pew and sat weeping. At that moment Jesus lifted the weight from her shoulders and entered her heart.
From that day in her church many years ago, until she passed she was a woman devoted to prayer, even though she was better known for the miracles that followed her. But if you were to ask her, her goal was the salvation of souls, and not miracles. She ultimately knew there was no power in herself to do anything, but in Christ alone, that's the reason for her extended time in prayer.

Part 3: Will be a detailed account of what she said about herself

    Kathryn Kuhlman Part 1

When I was a little girl, no older then ten years of age, I had stumbled across a woman unlike any I have known before. She wasn't like the ladies in the Baptist church that I was accustomed to being around; where people were quiet and conservative in their dress and speech. Now to sit in front of my t.v.set watching this lady in a flowing white dress walk as if she had authority. Her speech was bold and powerful, not timid and shy like the women I was used to seeing. I wouldn't have given her too much time, (because it was quite a weird site for someone so young),  if it wasn't for this one phrase; "Jesus is more real to me then you are!" For a little girl who was hungry to know the real Jesus, one 'with skin on it,' this sounded appealing.

This went on for many days, watching this woman of extraordinary power waltz on stage just to talk to us about Jesus, it didn't seem to effect her that there was a camera following her everywhere she went. 'That too seemed odd, I wouldn't want a camera stuck in my face, would you?'

It wasn't long before my very conservative mother walked in the room while watching Ms. Kuhlman share another intriguing story. "What are YOU DOING?" "She's a witch and I don't ever want to catch you watching her again!" "All lies!"

My mother's strong objection didn't keep me from my fascination with this evangelist with a great gift of prayer and as my relationship with the Lord grew, I couldn't help but be drawn into a powerful prayer ministry. For her prayer life seem to fill in the gap where others left off. Where some were put out to pray for just a few minutes, she would often pray until the camera were no longer running...

Though I listened to what she preached, I heard what she prayed and that changed my life. After I matured and grew I learned she was far from perfect, but inspite of her imperfections, her legacy still lives on today...

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about her:

Early Years:Kathryn Johanna Kuhlman was born in Concordia, Missouri, to German-American parents.[1] She was born-again at the age of 14 in the Methodist Church of Concordia, and began preaching in the West at the age of sixteen in primarily Baptist Churches.

Career: Kuhlman  traveled extensively around the United States and in many other countries holding "healing crusades" between the 1940s and 1970s. She had a weekly TV program in the 1960s and 1970s called I Believe In Miracles that was aired nationally. The foundation was established in 1954, and its Canadian branch in 1970. Joan Gieson became her assistant for 8½ years.
Following a 1967 fellowship in Philadelphia, Dr. William A. Nolen conducted a case study of 23 people who claimed to have been cured during her services.[2][3][4][5] Nolen's long term follow-ups concluded there were no cures in those cases.[6][7] Furthermore, one woman who was said to have been cured of spinal cancer took off her brace and ran across the stage at Kuhlman's command; her spine collapsed the following day and she died four months later.[6][8]
By 1970 she moved to Los Angeles conducting faith healing for thousands of people each day as an heir to Aimee Semple McPherson.[9] She became well-known despite, as she told reporters, having no theological training.[9] She married Burroughs A. Waltrip of Dallas, in which city he left his wife and two children, to marry Kuhlman in Iowa City, Iowa.[9] She described Waltrip as "the best-looking guy there ever was".[9] They soon divorced, as Kuhlman explained, "because he was divorced I had to choose between him and my work".[9]

In 1975, Kuhlman was sued by Paul Bartholomew, her personal administrator, who claimed she kept $1 million in jewelry and $1 million in fine art hidden away and sued her for $430,500 for breach of contract.[10][11] Two former associates accused her in the lawsuit of diverting funds and illegally removing records, which she denied and said the records were not private.[12] According to Kuhlman, the lawsuit was settled prior to trial.[6]

Death and Legacy: In July 1975 her doctor diagnosed her with a minor heart flareup and she had a relapse in November while in Los Angeles.[13][dead link] As a result, she had open heart surgery in Tulsa, Oklahoma from which she died in February 1976.[1] Kathryn Kuhlman is interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. A plaque in her honor is located in the main city park in Concordia, Missouri, a town located in central Missouri on Interstate Highway 70.
After she died, her will led to controversy.[14] She left $267,500, the bulk of her estate, to three family members and twenty employees.[14] Smaller bequests were given to 19 other employees.[14] According to the Independent Press-Telegram , her employees were disappointed that "she did not leave most of her estate to the foundation as she had done under a previous 1974 will."[14] The Kathryn Kuhlman Foundation has continued, but in 1982 it terminated its nationwide radio broadcasting. She influenced faith healers Benny Hinn and Billy Burke. Hinn has adopted some of her techniques and wrote a book about her.[15

For those whose gone on before us,

As I prepare for our upcoming study, I thought I'd share a poem I wrote many some time ago, on the lives of three women evangelist...

It wasn't the strength of their message, but their connection with a God that transforms. If one of these women are added to this study, it will be for their intercession and not for their gift of evangelism...

    Be blessed, dear ones....
                  Three Women of Valour

    Three Women of valour
    Who knows your name?

    Three women of valour
    Who knows your pain?

    Three women of valour
fleeing from worldly cares and sin's destain

    Three women of valour
    skilled for each battle
    with echoes of greatness
    but silent no more!

Those who have gone on before us,

In the coming days and weeks we will be looking at great men and women of prayer throughout history. There may be some you may agree with, some you may not, (and I'm not saying I will always agree with everything either. They are charismatic’s, conservatives, Baptist, Methodist, Assemblies of God, even non-denominational. ), but their impact upon Christianity is still being felt today; for they were the history makers that changed human events through the hand of a merciful God.
This study is about learning from those who have gone on before us, not only the techniques and styles they used, but more importantly who they were as people and what God taught them through the ‘storms of life.’  Yes, even learning from their mistakes. You will see, they were men and women, just like us, some have made some very grievous errors in judgments, others have suffered much loss, or even delivered from a life of sin to be a vessel for the Lord. Not in themselves, but in their surrender.
Some say, “what about the simple housewives who pray silently when nobody is looking?”  She is one of the many unsung heroes of today, for it wasn’t for her, and those like her, the church would be reduced to nothing more than a side show on the weekends, at best, at worst, a very hard place to take a nap!
Yes, she is one of the countless unsung heroes of today who live a quiet life and seeks no glory, but for her risen Lord!

But, in my estimation, it’s important to learn from the past, so we can build on their successes and learn from their mistakes.

For those who don’t learn from the mistakes of the past, are destined to repeat them!

    Attititude of Gratitude;

Over the course of time, God has proven Himself faithful over and over and I trust Him now when things aren't so easy, for He has never let me down, for His Word is true.

"Lord, I lift all those whom You have called to pray and intercede in these evil days. Those who have need, those who are ill or lacking financially, or relational problems, Lord, bring peace where there is strife. For we know Your Spirit cannot live where strife dwells."

“Lord I ask that You not only meet these needs, but that You will show us who You really are, in the midst of our painful circumstances. Open our eyes so we may see with new eyes, and reveal those hidden areas of our lives that are not right with You. I pray that we will walk with pure hearts before a holy God, as I end this week of praise and gratitude, Lord I ask that You take us onto new places that we have never been before, in Jesus' Name I pray..amen"

    My heart is overwhelmed,

twith gratitude today, that 1) my pastor wasn't hurt seriously when he fell last night. I am also thankful that God provided this opportunity for my husband Chris, for he has a good chance on getting hired at a local resturarant. He has been unemployed for almost two years and it's been pretty tough. 3) I am thankful for my health, for many are in fraile health, or even dying. 4) I am thankful for truth. Truth of God's Word, truth from error, and spoken truth amidst silence. 5) Last, but certainly not least I am thankful for the avenue of Facebook and Blogs, where I can share just a little bit of what God has given me with others.

THE FUNCTIONS OF AN INTERCESSOR Pt 1 & 2

[No one needs to tell us HOW to intercede we ARE intercession, as we walk with Christ and allow His Spirit to work and shine through us; Who by His very nature became an advocate for the weaker. No, none of us need a 'how to' manual because we ARE the how to manuals. What truly astounds me is the variety of individuals called to such a daunting task as intercession in these last days. For without the function of the prayer warrior, we, the church are reduced to a powerless religion, at best. Though all of this is true, I thought it would be a blessing to walk through the lives of individuals just like us. Some may believe our founding forefathers were greater than us, the church of today, but I say, though they were bolder and had more courage and they knew what they believed, where we often fail, we all are the same to God. Some are called to be apostles, prophets, preacher, teachers, evangelists, ‘for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:’ (Eph 4:12)   I believe, God wants us to know that they are no better than us, only different. When we truly believe that, we will begin to walk in the boldness and courage God intended us to. These 'functions' below are known by some, and bring clarity to others, my intention in sharing them with you is to bring us back to our roots for which we were created. I heard a wise saying once, ‘how can we know where we are going if we don’t know where we’ve been?’]

There are many examples of intercessors in the Bible, and they walked with the favor to impact and change God’s heart. Consider the following role models and their characteristics:

[I] THE FUNCTIONS OF AN INTERCESSOR

    TO RISK & SACRIFICE

    1) Moses was willing to be blotted out of God’s book. (Ex 32:32) [Moses came down from the mountain top, with the very words of God written in stone to find that the people had become corrupt worshiping at the feet of a false god. Same holds true today, especially in America. Multiple Bibles in almost every household, churches on every street, (or close to it). But week after week we still are seen evangelising ourselve while our neighbors die in their sins. Are we willing to fast and pray for not just our families but our churches and our cities?
    2) Abraham was willing to suffer God’s possible displeasure by negotiating Him down to 10 godly men in Sodom & Gomorrah. (Genesis 18:22). [When everyone around you gives up, are you still before the Lord? I for one, have buckled under the load, like some of you, but God has been merciful..He has called me to prayer walk every day until I see a quickening into the lives of men, in my family, my church, then my city, (Acts 13:44), but quite frankly I've been almost too tired to do my dishes at night, let alone put on my walking shoes and pray for a people that are headstrong and rebellious....But, still God becons me...
    3) When king David disobeyed by taking a census, he was willing to be destroyed in order to seek safety for his people. (1 Chron 21:17) Wow, I can't imagine praying that a plague would fall on me because of something I've done to stay God's hand of judgement on my people. Maybe, I'm far too selfish for that? Maybe I've been to 'modernized. Maybe both. (see 2 Samuel 24:17)
    4) Daniel was willing to talk with God when He was very angry. (Dan 9:16)  When I read this text, I thought about America. How angry God must be at her for all of idoltry, worshiping at the god of Self ridding every trace of the God who made who great. Wondering when we will find ourselves in ruin like the Roman Empire. "Thank You God for the Daniels of today in the wicked place in which we were born. Sustain in the days to come, oh God I pray."
    5) Jesus was willing to become sin and lay down His life so that others could find forgiveness. (Isa 53:12)
    6) The Centurion was willing to approach authority as well as subject himself to it. (Matt 8:5)
    7) Martha dared to risk her friendship with Jesus to challenge His decision of delay. (John 11:21-22)
    8) A father risked public exposure, fear of man’s opinions, and disappointment for the sake of interceding for his possessed son. (Mark 9:17)
    9) The Nobleman risked his self-sufficient pride. He could not help his son but he knew who could. He also risked public exposure and reputation. (John 4:49)
    10) Stephen was willing to face the murderous rage of a crowd and asked God to forgive them. (Acts 7:59)
    11) Esther was willing to perish at risk of defending her people to the king. At the very least she was willing to face a life of ill-favor, isolation and banishment from the king’s court. (Esther 4:16)
    12) David as a young boy was willing to face death from Goliath for the sake of Israel. At the very least he was willing to face humiliation, failure and defeat. (1 Sam 17:37)

    I met Jesus

one Sunday afternoon in pursuit of something bigger than myself. As a young child, I knew of little else, then an unseen god hovering over my home watching over me and mine. But it wasn't until I got real with the One who made me, that the 'hovering' became personal.

After my encounter with Jesus, I was drawn to extraordinary women like Mother Theresa and Kathryn Kuhlman because they talked of Jesus unlike anyone I ever met. One was like a lamb, the other, like a lion, but both had their appeal on this girl all of twelve.

As I grew, my life took on a shape far from the women I admired from my youth. Both were 'meant to stay single,' but one married the church, the other a man for only a short season; but both left their imprints upon my spirit. Though I married young then had three children. Then after 18 years, we divorce to find myself married again four years later.

No, I find myself more like my mother, than these women that haunted my dreams. Thinking of a time, I prayed to be just like them, but God saw fit to mold me into far more a humbling vessel. Maybe no body's hero but mine, but the more I embrace the Potter's wheel, the less I will long for a life that is not my own. The more I run toward Jesus, and away from women who have left their mark, the sooner I'll leave mine upon the souls of those who matter most, my family.

This is my legacy, what is yours?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Attitude of Gratitude:

There is only one thing I am most grateful for today, and that is my godly heritage. For many find Jesus later in life, but I was privileged to walk with Jesus from an early age; I can think of nothing to be more thankful for.

    Friday, April 1, 2011

What am I thankful for today?

    1) Today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude of God's grace and mercy, that when I fall, He's always there to pick me up and dust me off.
2)Today, I find myself so grateful with one more day with mom.
    3) Today, I'm thankful that the sun is shinning so brightly and the birds are back, because their sweet melody brings such joy to my heart.
    4) Just for today, I am thankful that we have what we need, just for today..
    5) And, I am so thankful that I'm working, it's a real answer to prayer.

These are what I'm thankful for today..

    Characteristics of an Intercessor

Have you ever thought what it truly means to be called as an intercessor?  We find ourselves doing what we know what God has called us to do, pray from the whole man. Sometimes even for hours upon hours for those who are weaker in body or in spirit.
Here is a thought provoking and well written article from Sandy Warner..
I am sharing only a few paragraphs, if you liked to see more, then follow the link below..

WORD STUDY: THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN INTERCESSOR

An intercessor is a person who by calling or by nature chooses to be a mediator on behalf of those who cannot intervene for themselves. Intercessors make requests, urge, plead, beg, counsel, discuss, risk, sacrifice, and make war on issues relating to the weaker ones, and thus they have an impact on the final outcomes for those they serve.

There is a difference between a person who is called an intercessor and a person who prays. Any person can pray, but not all praying people are intercessors. The opposite is true also - an intercessor may live his entire life and live to make only one great act of intercession. The differences of an intercessor are subtle - hidden in the life and heart behind the prayer. There are many examples of intercessors in the Bible, and they walked with the favor to impact and change God’s heart.

    Mom's Diary

    Second Installment:
    March 31, 2011
    I Remember When

"I was born January 16, 1928 at home in Pontiac Michigan.
I was the 4th daughter of Charles Erwin and Gladys Goodson.
There was 4 years between each of us girls and my parents used to say, “We had kids in school for 30 years!”
My oldest sister was at least 14-15 years my senior. Mother used to tell of the time when Ida Mae, my oldest sister, walking home from school one day, (with her school “boyfriend”).  When I saw her coming I ran to meet her, but only having my diaper on. I was not content to just run to her, I took my diaper off, swinging it over my head hollering, “Idie-Idie-Idie!” Naturally she was mortified. Mother said I was so chubby you couldn’t tell if I was a boy or a girl which added to my sister’s horror.
My family moved to California in 1930 and 2 years later my youngest sister, Oma Lee, was born.
My earliest remembrance was when I was in kindergarten; one of the boys in my class took a comb from a girl’s desk. (Now this comb was made of celluloid-which is equivalent to our plastic today).  B'eing or ornery and not wanting to give the comb back threw it behind the radiator that was used to heat the room.
It didn’t take long for the comb to start melting and the odor was bad that they had to evacuate that whole end of the building."

    What I am most grateful for today;

    1) I am so grateful for my salvation, and for the sacrifice Jesus made for me on the cross.

    2) For those special times of prayer, when the house is quiet when it's just Him and I.

    3) I am thankful that I got a chance to sleep in this morning, for those days seem to be less and less frequent these days, so I very much appreciate those times when my body can rest..

    4) I am thankful for Mom sharing her special memories with me, for each one has become treasures beyond price.

5)What a blessing it is to have a comfortable home, with not just room for mom, our daily needs met, not to mention God knew ahead of time that we would need a handicap provisions such as a shower for her long before she actually moved in..

Yes, we truly serve an awesome God!!!

A Week of Praise and Thanksgiving!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIh50tQGtg0&playnext=1&list=PL5183A5B61AD48E5D

God is, oh so good, isn't He??? If we are honest with ourselves, we have more things to be thankful for than we are willing to admit.

In life, it may find it easy to grumble and complain over the simplest of issues. Not getting the promotion we were promised? Our clothes are outdated? Not enough sleep? Family members don't act like they're suppose to. Husband's don't show enough appreciation? Wives don't show enough respect? And this one is probably the most popular of our day, 'never enough money to make ends meet!'

But no matter how we feel, God's Word commands us to give thanks in everything!

I've been going through a pretty deep valley, but no matter how I personally feel I know God is good and He is faithful which brings me to this week of Praise and Thanksgiving.

I want to encourage all those who may be going through a tough time, to give either a testimony to the goodness of our God, or a favorite music video that we all can experience for one week.

During this week of Thanksgiving and Praise I will share with you five things I am thankful for to start off the day, though I can't promise it will be in the morning, I do promise to share five things each day that the Lord has personally blessed me with for that day..

I hope you join me during this week of praise,

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Today's 5 Blessings:
    1) I am thankful for today the privilege of caring for my elderly mother towards the end of her life. It was what I've been praying for, and God answered.
    2) I am thankful for today the health of of my two grandchildren, for many babies aren't born with robust health as these two precious ones..
    3) What I am also thankful for today is those who faithfully pray for me and my family during this time.
    4) I am thankful also, for God's Word that contiually draws me closer to my King and grants me the wisdom I need each day.
    5) Lastly, I am thankful for rich tasting coffee I'm blessed with each morning as I open my Bible and pray.

    Poem of Spring,

I thought it would be fun to share another poem I've written during Springtime, the most enchanting time of year..Where the birds find thier way home again, and new life is budding on the trees.

I hope you like this chaming tale of, the bumble bee.

                             Busy Bee

    I'm a dancing bumblebee
    In pursuit of nectar

Well tendered gardens, meadows or even sweet tasting weeds along a busy street.

    Though life flashes before me,
I will never forget nectars sweet embrace

    Mom's Thoughts,

"We all deal with insecurities and have feet of clay; the struggles of everyday living. But if we continue to dwell on the negative-we’ll never have victory over these issues, we’ll never have any victory. We have to recognize we can’t make it on our own.
The first thing the enemy did was cause doubt. Because of the doubt, the enemy created within Eve, (Genesis 3:1), it caused her to second guess God; which is still going on today.” (Mary Lou Allison)"

Being truthful with oneself, with others and with God

    Over worked and Overtired,

    but won’t admit it?

Worn out, but pretending things is alright while suffering in silence?
Mom and I had a good little talk today, about this very issue, and here is a peek at our dialogue.
When I asked mom this question, her response was, “We tend to take on more than what God intends for us to because we want the praise of men; which is pride.”
“We all want acknowledgements, affirmation, and praise for a job well done which is built into our nature; some of it is good, but it can be taken too far.”
“But as Christians, it’s not about us; it’s about Him and about what He’s done for us. It’s not about how good we are, but how great God is.”
Why don’t we admit when we are weak or in need of prayer?
“Going back to the same root problem, because we want the praise of men and not content what God has given us, which is also pride.”
I read something the other day that made perfect sense, “If King Saul took all his insecurities, and fears about leading the children of Israel to God, than he most likely would have succeeded as king.”
Mom, “He took his eyes off God, and we must be careful not to do the same thing.”
But to keep from over generalizing, we must also keep in mind that we have a very real enemy who seeks to ‘rob, kill and destroy.’ (John 10:10)
He’s out to rob us of our time alone with God; our reputations and our families through discord, disease, or death. Not to mention our God-given time, talents, and yes our destinies under a ‘cloud of secrecy.’  For if he can keep us ashamed, or resentful, then most of our energy will be wasted just getting through the day.
He’s out to kill our God-given dream which breathes life into our members through doubts, fear, and insecurities.  And if he had his way, he most certainly would kill our bodies. But for now, all he has in his arsenal is fear, doubt, and unbelief.
He’s out to destroy our connection with the Body of Believers, where our strength lies.
But the worst being, his all out war on our testimonies. Because if he can succeed in this one area, than what’s to stop him from winning the battle over the minds and souls of men?
God’s Word says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:11).

Though this is true, take heart dear ones; I’ve read the end of the Book, and we win!!!

Sitting Here, Sipping Coffee While Thinking About You!

    Part I

It's 8 am and I've been up since 2:45 because this morning belongs to Zachary, my two month old grandson. With these early mornings, I've been trying desperately to find something tangible to stay awake; one of the more popular in the face paced world is Starbucks Double Shots Energy drinks, one of my favorites. I like not only how it tastes but to be quite honest, it gives me that extra boost I need to be more alert at a moments notice and I don't want to miss one single moment of my precious grandson's life due to sleepiness.
But, this morning I was intrigued by what was in this tall drink of energy. The first ingredient on the list, maltodextrin 2000mg; also known as Splenda and many other artificial sweeteners, (a polysaccharides that is used as a food additive. It is produced from starch by partial hydrolysis and is usually found as a creamy-white hygroscopic spray dried powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible). The side effects ranging from, [unexplained increase in weight, due to increase calories content. Bloating and flatulence, allergic reactions characterized by itching, rash, allergic rhinitis or asthma. See dangers of beetroot juice. Hypoglycemia, caused due to rebound, is also been reported among body builders] to having more in common with DDT, (a synthetic pesticide), than with food. The proponents say, it's derived from food, others say it's poison.

Let's look at what the experts say:

    "The Cons
The biggest concern about Splenda is the lack of studies covering the long-term effects of sucralose consumption on humans. Research published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology concluded, "Based on the studies and the extensive animal safety database, there is no indication that adverse effects on human health would occur from frequent or long-term exposure to sucralose at the maximum anticipated levels of intake." And while the FDA and Splenda manufacturers rely on these types of studies in approving products, there have been no independent studies conducted on humans. The FDA's recommendation is based solely on studies conducted by the manufacturer.
    Things to consider.

Sucralose is chlorinated. Other chlorinated compounds include pesticides.
A study in New Scientist (Nov 23, 1991) determined that the size of thymus glands in rats fed a diet rich in sucralose was reduced by 40%, suggesting that sucralose has the potential to compromise the immune system. There is no ongoing monitoring of the effects of sucralose on humans." (Provida Life Sciences)

Maltodextrin is only one of the chemicals, (or chemically enhanced), products that make up this energy drink, but to keep us from becoming side tract, we'll stay focused on this one important health concept.

What is your experiences with this sweetener?

    Hope

For many of us struggle with this one concept, on the outside we look strong and brave but on the inside we are struggling, lacking the essential faith we need to become the strong vital Christians we long to be. We have big dreams, but that’s far as it gets, dreaming but never achieving.

Hope is not some illusive dream, but a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit and a tangible promise from God.  When we choose to rest in Him, He steps in and do we cannot do for ourselves. That doesn’t mean, He’ll do everything for us, no, quite the contrary.  As we remember what He has already done, meditate on His Word, get counsel when needed, and then act when it’s time to act, and then faith fills us to overflowing.  Fear and faith cannot co-exist.

I started this ministry to give intercessors a safe place to come to share not only our victories, but almost our weaknesses. Then as we grew, I felt the need to start this blog to reach out to a wider audience, those just like us. Who give of themselves every day to a hurting world, but finding little in return.  In fact, it’s expected of us, to be the gallant warriors, often at a moment's notice.

But, who do we turn to when we are at our weakest point? Who can we count on, on those days we can barely get out of bed; when we all alone and no one seems to understand?  That is when the Master is calling us to a deeper place in Him.

Before Jesus was getting ready to be crucified, He set out with three of His disciples. When they arrive at Gethsemane, Jesus told the three to stay, watch and pray so He may be alone to seek the face of the Father. But, if you remember correctly, it didn't take them long and they were all fast asleep; and as human beings, that is what we do, sleep when there’s work to be done. Either we are so overwhelmed with what God has called us to do, that we forget to have our 'brother's back'. In writing this, I'm just as guilty as the next. With all that’s on my plate, such as caring for mom, a sick husband, and now caring for my new grandson, I feel like I'm chasing my tail half the time. But as I press into God, I believe He’s telling me, these are the days, we must be more vigilant in our prayer life. As the days grow darker and more evil; as many of brethren have fallen prey to hopelessness, I believe God is calling us to a deeper walk with Him.
It has been written, that I wanted to have a place where I can share just a little bit about me and what's been going on in my life; but to be quite honest, it's not about me, it's about Him and about you.

From now on, I may continue to share some of my personal struggles, but it will not be our main focus, but on Christ and what He has not only done, but who He is.

If you have a praise, or a testimony of what God has done in your life, I encourage you to share it here..If you need prayer, than please feel free to share that here too..For we are all in this together!

But remember, when you are having a hard day, keep in mind what He has already done in the past to get you through tough situations. Secondly, begin to meditate upon His character. When we refocus our minds on what’s truly important, than the obstacles we face won’t seem so big.

3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth. n Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”  (Eph 1:3-14)

    Always here for you,

    The Heart of a Warrior

It has been quite some time since I've been drawn into the world of poety, and what a delightful world it is.

This is one of my very favorite pieces, birthed out of a desire to see integrity where so little often found in this self-absorbed society in which we live.

Let me know what you think,

    The Heart Of A Warrior

    They rush in like lightning
    with each battle cry.

Men drenched with sweat, blood and tears.

    Each swearing their allegiance to their king;
    just wars or not.

Respect and honor hold them together,
    with pistols in hand.

Often found dreaming of another place and time, 'waking up in a comfortable bed with faint giggles in the background, and busy wives in the kitchen.' Forgetting for just a moment a battle that rages on year after year. Now all that's left is dead bodies, a few broken warriors and the smell black powder.

For those who are left behind, know grace is rarely given from a kingdom they must defend until the bitter end; be it victory, death or betrayal.

Unless they be more noble than the rest
they will never find their way home
or be accepted by the throne.

For those are, indeed, the most blessed.

Will their ashes be scattered across a blood stained field?

    Or

    knighted by an emperor's crown.

    I'm Amazed!

I’m amazed how God loves me.
I’m amazed how He shows me His tender care.

I’m amazed how swiftly God comes to my aid when life seems unfair.
Giving me what I need, but not always what I desire.
I’m amazed how gently He wipes away all my tearsWhen my days and my nights are full of fears.
He’s even sends wiser ones then me to aid me when I'm unable to walk. Gives me wings so I may run this race.

I’m amazed how He puts up with all my failings.
     Ignoring my whaling and complaining.

I am even more amazed at those who refuse to perceive,
The goodness of our God in the land of the living.

    Just for Today,

I find myself pondering the many blessings God brings my way.

    Just for Today,

I am in awe how God has chosen to reveal Himself to me. Drawing me even deeper into a knowledge of Him.

    Just for Today,

I realize, through the most troubling of times, God is near and is consistantly revealing His love for such a nobody like me.

    Just for Today,

I am humbled at His longing just to be near.

    Just for Today,

I am grateful that I can trust my loved ones into His tender care.

    Just for Today,

I can look forward to a night in my beloved's embrace, after a rough day of many tough decisions amidst a few chuckles and some laughter.

    Just for Today,

I've come to realize where the end of my rope begins and an end to life as I know it.

    Just for Today,

I begin anew, with fresh promises and a love that's true.

    Just for Today,

I know there's a God in Heaven, Who is leading me to a good land. One of His choosing and not of mine. If I will but trust and not doubt.

    Just for Today,

I have peace in the moment for God is meeting my daily needs even though the world keeps pushing in and often threatening to discourage me.

    Just for Today,

I let go of what I could never hold on to.

    Just for Today,

I thank God for the power of forgiveness, for in 'It's' hands, I am free.

    A Personal Touch

What an exciting two weeks we've had, from apologetics to poetry, then before we knew it, here we are, 'a hop, skip, and a jump' reflecting on where we've been and where we are going..

I thought it would be a good idea that this blog would lend more of a personal touch, sharing not only the challenges I have faced, but also the strength, faith and hope I have found in Christ.

We've enjoyed looking into apologetics to sharing a few personal stories, such as some poems I've written.

When I started this blog I shared some of the same material I wrote for my group on Face book.

But the more I prayed and thought about the future of this blog, I came to believe that it should reflect more of who I am, and not so much my knowledge. I have such a big heart for the hurting, but I have found a segment of the Body of Christ that is often forgotten, and to those this ministry is dedicated..Those who don't have a voice, those who sit in church pews week after week to pray God's blessing on the service and His people.

Yes, the unknown...This is the very heart of this ministry..

    Precious Memories

I loved my Grandma Etta, not only was I her namesake, but she had this way about her; from her gentle quiet ways which has left an imprint into my spirit and deepest recesses of my mind.
Though we lived in California and her and my Grandpa Allison used to live in Nebraska, my dad would do his best to visit his aging parents every chance he got. Most the time I went with him and mom, other times, he went by himself; those were the times money was tight.
But this one time, with Grandma Etta stands out more than all the others. I was all of six years old when we were all sitting together around her kitchen table.  My grandma proceeded to ask me if I would help her in the kitchen, ‘as all fine ladies need to learn,’ as she proceeded to walk in that direction. She didn’t even wait for my response. She didn’t need to.  So, I obediently followed this woman I adored into this small little kitchen; much smaller than I was accustomed to.
After the kitchen door closed behind us, she pulled out a coffee cup then a tall glass, then looked at me and asked, “Would you like a little coffee milk?”  (Since grandma had the coffee pot on all day long, because it was their custom to have coffee at every meal). I looked at her with amazement because the closest I was allowed to get to coffee in my young life was a whiff now and then from this stale cup of black liquid, Momma called ‘coffee’. Then my grandmother chuckled, because I must have wrinkled my nose.  She then said, “Don’t worry; there will be plenty of milk and sugar! But you gotta promise me this one thing?!” “Don’t tell your parents!” “You’ll get your grandma is so much trouble!”  I nodded my head and promised to ‘never tell’ on her. How I anticipated those mornings when grandma would sneak me coffee behind my parents back.
I still remember how it tasted, bitter and sweet, but the bitterness seem too crowed out the sweet. ‘But, I was a BIG GIRL NOW,’ hiding out in the kitchen, drinking coffee with grandma while ‘helping;’ making sure everything tasted alright!
Many mornings, when I drink my coffee my mind drifts back to those days with my Grandma Allison and a smile crosses my face.

    Going Through the Fire

And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver:” (Malachi 3:3). In refining silver, the silversmith needs to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames are hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The silversmith not only has to sit there holding the silver, but he has to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it is in the fire. If the silver is left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The silversmith knows the silver is fully refined when they see their image in it. He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. God knows when we are fully refined for His good (purpose). ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose’. Romans 8:28 ~ When we are feeling the heat of the fire, we must remember that God has His eye on us and will keep watching us until He sees His image in us.

Furthermore, we need not fear the fiery trials of afflictions and temptations by which the Saviour refines His silver (us). If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and know this! He will rescue us when His work is fulfilled in us, (Phil 1:6). Also, keep in mind that, ‘No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it’. 1 Cor. 10:13 ~

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply:
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine" ~ John Rippon

    Mom's Diary

We really are in for a treat! My mother graciously agreed to share some of either her precious memories with us, or what God is currently doing in her life. As you will see, mom is a great story teller and has a lot to share with us, but because of her arthritis, it will be a rare treasure when she gets out her pen and paper, so keep a look out for it!

My family lived in California having moved there in 1930. I was 2 years old at the time. We had moved from Lower California, North to Central California to live in San Luis Obispo and that was where my youngest sister, Oma Lee was born in 1932.
We lived in San Luis Obispo until 1939 when we moved North again to Salinas, California.
While we lived in San Luis Obispo, the elementary school I went to was less than a mile from home, so we went home for lunch every school day. We had to allow enough time after lunch to get back to school in time..
We left home a little late one day and as we were leaving home, we could see the train coming around the bend. If we didn’t get across the tracts before the train crossed our street, we would have to wait until the train passed to cross and we would be late for school, so we started running.
My little fat legs couldn’t go too fast so my sister kept hurrying me on.
We crossed the tract just in time-right in front of the engine! We were scared and I am sure it scared the engineer.
After we crossed, I had to sit down on the ground to catch my breath. But we made it to school on time!!
Our house set on a slight hill, so we could stand in our dining room and see 3 or 4 blocks down the street.
School was out early in the afternoon and it took me better part of an hour to get home. We lived about ¾ of a mile from school and it took me a good hour to get home, which should have taken only about 40-45 minutes. So mother stood in our dining room and watched me walk those 3 or 4 blocks. She said, I stopped and looked at everything. If I saw something across the street, I would walk across to see it better.  If I spotted something in back of me, I would walk to see. This went on all the way home—(every day)
    I didn’t miss a thing!
