Mom's Diary

Second Installment:
March 31, 2011
I Remember When

"I was born January 16, 1928 at home in Pontiac Michigan.
I was the 4th daughter of Charles Erwin and Gladys Goodson.
There was 4 years between each of us girls and my parents used to say, “We had kids in school for 30 years!”
My oldest sister was at least 14-15 years my senior. Mother used to tell of the time when Ida Mae, my oldest sister, walking home from school one day, (with her school “boyfriend”).  When I saw her coming I ran to meet her, but only having my diaper on. I was not content to just run to her, I took my diaper off, swinging it over my head hollering, “Idie-Idie-Idie!” Naturally she was mortified. Mother said I was so chubby you couldn’t tell if I was a boy or a girl which added to my sister’s horror.
My family moved to California in 1930 and 2 years later my youngest sister, Oma Lee, was born.
My earliest remembrance was when I was in kindergarten; one of the boys in my class took a comb from a girl’s desk. (Now this comb was made of celluloid-which is equivalent to our plastic today).  B'eing or ornery and not wanting to give the comb back threw it behind the radiator that was used to heat the room.
It didn’t take long for the comb to start melting and the odor was bad that they had to evacuate that whole end of the building."

Day of Rest,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKLR3sqlGy8&feature=related

What I am most grateful for today;

1) I am so grateful for my salvation, and for the sacrifice Jesus made for me on the cross.

2) For those special times of prayer, when the house is quiet when it's just Him and I.

3) I am thankful that I got a chance to sleep in this morning, for those days seem to be less and less frequent these days, so I very much appreciate those times when my body can rest..

4) I am thankful for Mom sharing her special memories with me, for each one has become treasures beyond price.

5)What a blessing it is to have a comfortable home, with not just room for mom, our daily needs met, not to mention God knew ahead of time that we would need a handicap provisions such as a shower for her long before she actually moved in..

Yes, we truly serve an awesome God!!!

A Week of Praise and Thanksgiving!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIh50tQGtg0&playnext=1&list=PL5183A5B61AD48E5D

God is, oh so good, isn't He??? If we are honest with ourselves, we have more things to be thankful for than we are willing to admit.

In life, it may find it easy to grumble and complain over the simplest of issues. Not getting the promotion we were promised? Our clothes are outdated? Not enough sleep? Family members don't act like they're suppose to. Husband's don't show enough appreciation? Wives don't show enough respect? And this one is probably the most popular of our day, 'never enough money to make ends meet!'

But no matter how we feel, God's Word commands us to give thanks in everything!

I've been going through a pretty deep valley, but no matter how I personally feel I know God is good and He is faithful which brings me to this week of Praise and Thanksgiving.

I want to encourage all those who may be going through a tough time, to give either a testimony to the goodness of our God, or a favorite music video that we all can experience for one week.

During this week of Thanksgiving and Praise I will share with you five things I am thankful for to start off the day, though I can't promise it will be in the morning, I do promise to share five things each day that the Lord has personally blessed me with for that day..

I hope you join me during this week of praise,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today's 5 Blessings:
1) I am thankful for today the privilege of caring for my elderly mother towards the end of her life. It was what I've been praying for, and God answered.
2) I am thankful for today the health of of my two grandchildren, for many babies aren't born with robust health as these two precious ones..
3) What I am also thankful for today is those who faithfully pray for me and my family during this time.
4) I am thankful also, for God's Word that contiually draws me closer to my King and grants me the wisdom I need each day.
5) Lastly, I am thankful for rich tasting coffee I'm blessed with each morning as I open my Bible and pray.

Poem of Spring,

I thought it would be fun to share another poem I've written during Springtime, the most enchanting time of year..Where the birds find thier way home again, and new life is budding on the trees.

I hope you like this chaming tale of, the bumble bee.

                         Busy Bee

I'm a dancing bumblebee
In pursuit of nectar

Well tendered gardens, meadows or even sweet tasting weeds along a busy street.

Though life flashes before me,
I will never forget nectars sweet embrace

Mom's Thoughts,

"We all deal with insecurities and have feet of clay; the struggles of everyday living. But if we continue to dwell on the negative-we’ll never have victory over these issues, we’ll never have any victory. We have to recognize we can’t make it on our own.
The first thing the enemy did was cause doubt. Because of the doubt, the enemy created within Eve, (Genesis 3:1), it caused her to second guess God; which is still going on today.” (Mary Lou Allison)"

Being truthful with oneself, with others and with God

Over worked and Overtired,

but won’t admit it?

Worn out, but pretending things is alright while suffering in silence?
                Mom and I had a good little talk today, about this very issue, and here is a peek at our dialogue.
When I asked mom this question, her response was, “We tend to take on more than what God intends for us to because we want the praise of men; which is pride.”
“We all want acknowledgements, affirmation, and praise for a job well done which is built into our nature; some of it is good, but it can be taken too far.”
“But as Christians, it’s not about us; it’s about Him and about what He’s done for us. It’s not about how good we are, but how great God is.”
Why don’t we admit when we are weak or in need of prayer?
“Going back to the same root problem, because we want the praise of men and not content what God has given us, which is also pride.”
I read something the other day that made perfect sense, “If King Saul took all his insecurities, and fears about leading the children of Israel to God, than he most likely would have succeeded as king.”
Mom, “He took his eyes off God, and we must be careful not to do the same thing.”
   But to keep from over generalizing, we must also keep in mind that we have a very real enemy who seeks to ‘rob, kill and destroy.’ (John 10:10)
He’s out to rob us of our time alone with God; our reputations and our families through discord, disease, or death. Not to mention our God-given time, talents, and yes our destinies under a ‘cloud of secrecy.’  For if he can keep us ashamed, or resentful, then most of our energy will be wasted just getting through the day.
He’s out to kill our God-given dream which breathes life into our members through doubts, fear, and insecurities.  And if he had his way, he most certainly would kill our bodies. But for now, all he has in his arsenal is fear, doubt, and unbelief.
He’s out to destroy our connection with the Body of Believers, where our strength lies.
But the worst being, his all out war on our testimonies. Because if he can succeed in this one area, than what’s to stop him from winning the battle over the minds and souls of men?
God’s Word says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:11).

Though this is true, take heart dear ones; I’ve read the end of the Book, and we win!!!

Sitting Here, Sipping Coffee While Thinking About You!

Part I

It's 8 am and I've been up since 2:45 because this morning belongs to Zachary, my two month old grandson. With these early mornings, I've been trying desperately to find something tangible to stay awake; one of the more popular in the face paced world is Starbucks Double Shots Energy drinks, one of my favorites. I like not only how it tastes but to be quite honest, it gives me that extra boost I need to be more alert at a moments notice and I don't want to miss one single moment of my precious grandson's life due to sleepiness.
But, this morning I was intrigued by what was in this tall drink of energy. The first ingredient on the list, maltodextrin 2000mg; also known as Splenda and many other artificial sweeteners, (a polysaccharides that is used as a food additive. It is produced from starch by partial hydrolysis and is usually found as a creamy-white hygroscopic spray dried powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible). The side effects ranging from, [unexplained increase in weight, due to increase calories content. Bloating and flatulence,allergic reactions characterized by itching, rash, allergic rhinitis or asthma. See dangers of beetroot juice. Hypoglycemia, caused due to rebound, is also been reported among body builders] to having more in common with DDT, (a synthetic pesticide), than with food. The proponents say, it's derived from food, others say it's poison.

Let's look at what the experts say:

"The Cons
The biggest concern about Splenda is the lack of studies covering the long-term effects of sucralose consumption on humans. Research published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology concluded, "Based on the studies and the extensive animal safety database, there is no indication that adverse effects on human health would occur from frequent or long-term exposure to sucralose at the maximum anticipated levels of intake." And while the FDA and Splenda manufacturers rely on these types of studies in approving products, there have been no independent studies conducted on humans. The FDA's recommendation is based solely on studies conducted by the manufacturer.
Things to consider.

Sucralose is chlorinated. Other chlorinated compounds include pesticides.
A study in New Scientist (Nov 23, 1991) determined that the size of thymus glands in rats fed a diet rich in sucralose was reduced by 40%, suggesting that sucralose has the potential to compromise the immune system. There is no ongoing monitoring of the effects of sucralose on humans." (Provida Life Sciences)

   Maltodextrin is only one of the chemicals, (or chemically enhanced), products that make up this energy drink, but to keep us from becoming side tract, we'll stay focused on this one important health concept.

What is your experiences with this sweetener?

Hope

For many of us struggle with this one concept, on the outside we look strong and brave but on the inside we are struggling, lacking the essential faith we need to become the strong vital Christians we long to be. We have big dreams, but that’s far as it gets, dreaming but never achieving.

Hope is not some illusive dream, but a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit and a tangible promise from God.  When we choose to rest in Him, He steps in and do we cannot do for ourselves. That doesn’t mean, He’ll do everything for us, no, quite the contrary.  As we remember what He has already done, meditate on His Word, get counsel when needed, and then act when it’s time to act, and then faith fills us to overflowing.  Fear and faith cannot co-exist.

I started this ministry to give intercessors a safe place to come to share not only our victories, but almost our weaknesses. Then as we grew, I felt the need to start this blog to reach out to a wider audience, those just like us. Who give of themselves every day to a hurting world, but finding little in return.  In fact, it’s expected of us, to be the gallant warriors, often at a moment's notice.

  But, who do we turn to when we are at our weakest point? Who can we count on, on those days we can barely get out of bed; when we all alone and no one seems to understand?  That is when the Master is calling us to a deeper place in Him.

Before Jesus was getting ready to be crucified, He set out with three of His disciples. When they arrive at Gethsemane, Jesus told the three to stay, watch and pray so He may be alone to seek the face of the Father. But, if you remember correctly, it didn't take them long and they were all fast asleep; and as human beings, that is what we do, sleep when there’s work to be done. Either we are so overwhelmed with what God has called us to do, that we forget to have our 'brother's back'. In writing this, I'm just as guilty as the next. With all that’s on my plate, such as caring for mom, a sick husband, and now caring for my new grandson, I feel like I'm chasing my tail half the time. But as I press into God, I believe He’s telling me, these are the days, we must be more vigilant in our prayer life. As the days grow darker and more evil; as many of brethren have fallen prey to hopelessness, I believe God is calling us to a deeper walk with Him.
  It has been written, that I wanted to have a place where I can share just a little bit about me and what's been going on in my life; but to be quite honest, it's not about me, it's about Him and about you.

From now on, I may continue to share some of my personal struggles, but it will not be our main focus, but on Christ and what He has not only done, but who He is.

If you have a praise, or a testimony of what God has done in your life, I encourage you to share it here..If you need prayer, than please feel free to share that here too..For we are all in this together!

 But remember, when you are having a hard day, keep in mind what He has already done in the past to get you through tough situations. Secondly, begin to meditate upon His character. When we refocus our minds on what’s truly important, than the obstacles we face won’t seem so big.

3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth. n Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”  (Eph 1:3-14)

Always here for you,

Etta

The Heart of a Warrior

It has been quite some time since I've been drawn into the world of poety, and what a delightful world it is.

This is one of my very favorite pieces, birthed out of a desire to see integrity where so little often found in this self-absorbed society in which we live.

Let me know what you think,

The Heart Of A Warrior

They rush in like lightning
with each battle cry.

Men drenched with sweat, blood and tears.

Each swearing their allegiance to their king;
just wars or not.

Respect and honor hold them together,
with pistols in hand.

Often found dreaming of another place and time, 'waking up in a comfortable bed with faint giggles in the background, and busy wives in the kitchen.' Forgetting for just a moment a battle that rages on year after year. Now all that's left is dead bodies, a few broken warriors and the smell black powder.

For those who are left behind, know grace is rarely given from a kingdom they must defend until the bitter end; be it victory, death or betrayal.

Unless they be more noble than the rest
they will never find their way home
or be accepted by the throne.

For those are, indeed, the most blessed.

Will their ashes be scattered across a blood stained field?

Or

knighted by an emperor's crown.

Dedicated to all those who do what is right, no matter what the cost.

I'm Amazed!

 I’m amazed how God loves me.
I’m amazed how He shows me His tender care.

I’m amazed how swiftly God comes to my aid when life seems unfair.
Giving me what I need, but not always what I desire.
I’m amazed how gently He wipes away all my tearsWhen my days and my nights are full of fears.
He’s even sends wiser ones then me to aid me when I'm unable to walk. Gives me wings so I may run this race.

I’m amazed how He puts up with all my failings.
 Ignoring my whaling and complaining.

I am even more amazed at those who refuse to perceive,
The goodness of our God in the land of the living.

Just for Today,

I find myself pondering the many blessings God brings my way.

Just for Today,

I am in awe how God has chosen to reveal Himself to me. Drawing me even deeper into a knowledge of Him.

Just for Today,

I realize, through the most troubling of times, God is near and is consistantly revealing His love for such a nobody like me.

Just for Today,

I am humbled at His longing just to be near.

Just for Today,

I am grateful that I can trust my loved ones into His tender care.

Just for Today,

I can look forward to a night in my beloved's embrace, after a rough day of many tough decisions amidst a few chuckles and some laughter.

Just for Today,

I've come to realize where the end of my rope begins and an end to life as I know it.

Just for Today,

I begin anew, with fresh promises and a love that's true.

Just for Today,

I know there's a God in Heaven, Who is leading me to a good land. One of His choosing and not of mine. If I will but trust and not doubt.

Just for Today,

I have peace in the moment for God is meeting my daily needs even though the world keeps pushing in and often threatening to discourage me.

Just for Today,

I let go of what I could never hold on to.

Just for Today,

I thank God for the power of forgiveness, for in 'It's' hands, I am free.

A Personal Touch

What an exciting two weeks we've had, from apologetics to poetry, then before we knew it, here we are, 'a hop, skip, and a jump' reflecting on where we've been and where we are going..

I thought it would be a good idea that this blog would lend more of a personal touch, sharing not only the challenges I have faced, but also the strength, faith and hope I have found in Christ.

We've enjoyed looking into apologetics to sharing a few personal stories, such as some poems I've written.

When I started this blog I shared some of the same material I wrote for my group on Face book.

But the more I prayed and thought about the future of this blog, I came to believe that it should reflect more of who I am, and not so much my knowledge. I have such a big heart for the hurting, but I have found a segment of the Body of Christ that is often forgotten, and to those this ministry is dedicated..Those who don't have a voice, those who sit in church pews week after week to pray God's blessing on the service and His people.

Yes, the unknown...This is the very heart of this ministry..

Precious Memories

I loved my Grandma Etta, not only was I her namesake, but she had this way about her; from her gentle quiet ways which has left an imprint into my spirit and deepest recesses of my mind.
Though we lived in California and her and my Grandpa Allison used to live in Nebraska, my dad would do his best to visit his aging parents every chance he got. Most the time I went with him and mom, other times, he went by himself; those were the times money was tight.
But this one time, with Grandma Etta stands out more than all the others. I was all of six years old when we were all sitting together around her kitchen table.  My grandma proceeded to ask me if I would help her in the kitchen, ‘as all fine ladies need to learn,’ as she proceeded to walk in that direction. She didn’t even wait for my response. She didn’t need to.  So, I obediently followed this woman I adored into this small little kitchen; much smaller than I was accustomed to.
After the kitchen door closed behind us, she pulled out a coffee cup then a tall glass, then looked at me and asked, “Would you like a little coffee milk?”  (Since grandma had the coffee pot on all day long, because it was their custom to have coffee at every meal). I looked at her with amazement because the closest I was allowed to get to coffee in my young life was a whiff now and then from this stale cup of black liquid, Momma called ‘coffee’. Then my grandmother chuckled, because I must have wrinkled my nose.  She then said, “Don’t worry; there will be plenty of milk and sugar! But you gotta promise me this one thing?!” “Don’t tell your parents!” “You’ll get your grandma is so much trouble!”  I nodded my head and promised to ‘never tell’ on her. How I anticipated those mornings when grandma would sneak me coffee behind my parents back.
I still remember how it tasted, bitter and sweet, but the bitterness seem too crowed out the sweet. ‘But, I was a BIG GIRL NOW,’ hiding out in the kitchen, drinking coffee with grandma while ‘helping;’ making sure everything tasted alright!
Many mornings, when I drink my coffee my mind drifts back to those days with my Grandma Allison and a smile crosses my face.

Going Through the Fire

And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver:” (Malachi 3:3). In refining silver, the silversmith needs to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames are hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The silversmith not only has to sit there holding the silver, but he has to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it is in the fire. If the silver is left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The silversmith knows the silver is fully refined when they see their image in it. He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. God knows when we are fully refined for His good (purpose). ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose’. Romans 8:28 ~ When we are feeling the heat of the fire, we must remember that God has His eye on us and will keep watching us until He sees His image in us.

Furthermore, we need not fear the fiery trials of afflictions and temptations by which the Saviour refines His silver (us). If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and know this! He will rescue us when His work is fulfilled in us, (Phil 1:6). Also, keep in mind that, ‘No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it’. 1 Cor. 10:13 ~

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply:
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine" ~ John Rippon

Mom's Diary

We really are in for a treat! My mother graciously agreed to share some of either her precious memories with us, or what God is currently doing in her life. As you will see, mom is a great story teller and has a lot to share with us, but because of her arthritis, it will be a rare treasure when she gets out her pen and paper, so keep a look out for it!

March 16, 2011
My family lived in California having moved there in 1930. I was 2 years old at the time. We had moved from Lower California, North to Central California to live in San Luis Obispo and that was where my youngest sister, Oma Lee was born in 1932.
We lived in San Luis Obispo until 1939 when we moved North again to Salinas, California.
While we lived in San Luis Obispo, the elementary school I went to was less than a mile from home, so we went home for lunch every school day. We had to allow enough time after lunch to get back to school in time..
We left home a little late one day and as we were leaving home, we could see the train coming around the bend. If we didn’t get across the tracts before the train crossed our street, we would have to wait until the train passed to cross and we would be late for school, so we started running.
My little fat legs couldn’t go too fast so my sister kept hurrying me on.
We crossed the tract just in time-right in front of the engine! We were scared and I am sure it scared the engineer.
After we crossed, I had to sit down on the ground to catch my breath. But we made it to school on time!!
                Our house set on a slight hill, so we could stand in our dining room and see 3 or 4 blocks down the street.
School was out early in the afternoon and it took me better part of an hour to get home. We lived about ¾ of a mile from school and it took me a good hour to get home, which should have taken only about 40-45 minutes. So mother stood in our dining room and watched me walk those 3 or 4 blocks. She said, I stopped and looked at everything. If I saw something across the street, I would walk across to see it better.  If I spotted something in back of me, I would walk to see. This went on all the way home—(every day)
I didn’t miss a thing!

Getting Ready For Spring,

I thought it would be a lot of fun to share something I wrote last year, just before spring. Not really a poem, more of a short pose.

Let me know what you think,

Dancing with Saturday's Rain

When I awoke this lovely pre-spring morning, I heard thunder off in a distance.  As I stepped out into our patio I gazed over the horizon and I could not believe my eyes; 'troubling clouds circling above my head'. In an instant, I knew what to do, because it wouldn't be long and we would have a down pour. "Dratz! I'm behind on the gardening!" As I took a gander at my neglected lawn, pre-spring weeds had already popped up all over my beautiful green lawn.

It took less than five minutes I had on my gardening gloves, pulling those little buggers that invaded my beautiful lawn, ripping each one out one by one with a feverish resolve BEFORE the rain hit.

It was the funniest sight I dare say, out there still in my jammies, sweatshirt and slippers, knee deep in dirt, on the hunt for one more out of control weeds, (before they get too big and end up taking over!)

As misty water touches my face, I reach for one greener enemy, for I knew I was almost done, and I HAD WON this battle of this wills, at least, this time.

After my dancing with the enemy drew to a close, I looked down and saw I was wearing my brand new slippers that had I gotten this Christmas. Grumbling, and shaking my feet with such intensity, as if I was on a string; but did little good because my brand new slippers were now caked in mud and would never be the same.

It was then I knew it was time to quit....While thinking to myself, 'maybe it's time to get dressed for the day and tackle another part of the house?'

Drinking Water

http://nutrition.about.com/od/hydrationwater/a/waterarticle.htmI thought it would be a good idea to talk about different nutritional topics so we can be the best we can be for God. Most Americans are far too obsessed with sugars and caffeine, (me included) to get anything accomplished. It affects our work habits, and our ability to function at home with those we love and care about. Why would such an article be in a Christian blog dedicated to the Word of God and to prayer?  The Word of God says we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and as such, we need to be thinking of how we treat it. Whether it’s what we consume, (or don’t consume), or get enough rest effect the way we carry ourselves.  It often determines whether we will succeed or fail at the task we have in front of us.
Periodically I will share different ideas how we can become healthier, along with my own personal struggle with food. Then hopefully we will find our way to a happier, healthier, abundant life Jesus has waiting to for us to have.
Topic One: Water
Drinking water is essential to our overall health, but why are so few of us getting enough?  Maybe we are so busy with our day to day lives that we forget to. Or if you’re like me, most of your water is filtered through coffee beans. But, I find that if I don’t drink enough water, my head gets kind of fussy, then my muscles get sore, then I start getting really tired.
They say that if you have a sedentary life, then the 8 eight oz rule should be adequate, but if you are always on the go and/or you’re a fitness guru, then you require far more than that..And if you are overweight, then, add even more.
Geee, if I were to add all the water I should be drinking my system would become a lake and my family would never see me, (you know what I mean!)  Because I am always on the go and I’m overweight!
Someone once told me, “Give up coffee then!”  She did NOT just say that!  For me and coffee are partners, I can add the water, but give up the coffee, NO WAY!
Okay, let’s get serious, the link I’m adding has a lot of good information about water, why we should drink it and what happens when we don’t such as digestive disorders and fatigue. Since our bodies are over 75% water it makes since that we should be replacing it.
And no, water filtered through coffee beans does not count! But it sure tastes good!
I hope you make a commitment with me to start drinking more water, then after a week or so, let me know how you feel..

Could be the cure you’re looking for

Intercessor's Heart, The book

Intercessor’s Heart
Intercessor: go-between, intermediary, intermediate, mediator; noun
in•ter•ces•sion (Än'tÉ™r-sÄ›sh'É™n)    n.
1.            Entreaty in favor of another, especially a prayer or petition to God in behalf of another.
2.            Mediation in a dispute.

Preface
A dear friend of mine once said, “Etta, your faith inspires me;” words that hit me like a ton of bricks.  Not because it puffed up my already hyper inflated ego; but because I thought to myself, ‘how anyone would say such a thing about me, for if she knew me as I really am, she wouldn't say such a thing.’ But, what surprised me even more is why God would call such a woman to share her testimony with such treasures you see before you, let alone build a ministry to hurting prayer intercessors.
Maybe, He delights in using 'cracked 'and 'flawed' vessels such as King David?  Thinking to myself that even though this awesome man of God was so passionately in love with his Creator, he was deeply flawed just like me and just like you.
    Yes, though I’m no one special, not by far, I have been called to this task to reach out to intercessors all over this world because they are hurting and overburdened, and some are still living in the past or haven’t dealt with it correctly.  But all God is calling to become whole, (read John 10:10)  For we have a real very real adversary whose sole purpose is to destroy our destinies, more importantly, he’s out to destroy God’s work on the earth. But, I’m here to tell you, he will never win, though he may win a battle or two, he will never win the war! For you see! I’ve read the end of the story!!! And we win!!
Why did God call me to such a task? I guess, because I’m just dumb enough to do whatever He asks me to no matter how foolish it makes me looks.  Have I always been obedient? No, not by far, but it’s not about me, it’s about Him!
Though I continue to battle insecurities, God gently tugs on my heart with a whisper, “Tell them anyway, for I work through imperfect vessels.”
Now, my challenge to you is, to read through each testimony as they are for each has gone through their own unique set of circumstances. Unique, special, but all very flawed; just like King David, human, but ever longing to be someone after God’s own heart.
We have marriage problems, our kids are rebellious, and at times we even eat too much, or stumble into addictions. We are weak and sick, or we are healthy and strong.
 By the world's standards we are poor, rich, or 'middle class,' but we all go to one Source to meet our daily needs and for the needs of those for whom we pray for, His name is Jesus Christ.
This is not a how-to-manual, for there are far more intelligent people for that, this is a book of testimonies lived by those unknown pillars of our church. These testimonies are to give each of us a voice after a lifetime of silence, except to our King.
My heart is overwhelmed with thanksgiving to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has given us the Holy Spirit, that through all the highs and lows; the good times and bad, He is the only one who stands out in my mind who has always been there for me no matter what, and because of Him I give my deepest gratitude.  When I stumble and fall, He faithfully intercedes for me day and night before the Throne Room of Grace. He’s always there when I need someone to talk to, ready to pick me up, dust me off, and then exhort me unto good works. Then, once again He takes my needs before the Father and faithfully sends the Comforter and the ‘Empowerer’ to comfort then to fill me to do what I never thought possible.
Next, I want to thank each author that contributed to this work, each have exposed hidden areas of their lives, which have yet to see the light of day until now.

And for my family who gave me the time I needed to complete this all consuming two fold work; a burden I could not escape, no matter how I tried, saying thank you is never enough, you are the best!  But most especially to my husband Christopher, thank you for your undying support for me and this project, I am so grateful for your stability and strength. Thank you for also stepping in and filling in where ever you were needed; to say thank you will never be enough.
And to my sister Laura Allison-Brady who has been that strong shoulder to lean on during my weakest of times, which never wavered in her support for me, as a woman, and friend.  She’s been a true gift for which I will always be grateful for.
I would be negligent if I didn’t mention our pastor, Peter A. Ernst of Manzanita Baptist Church in Kingman Arizona; for his leadership, support and exhortation and support during a difficult time in our lives, I especially want to thank him for how he came along side my husband, during his deepest need.
Last, but most certainly not least, I want to thank every single intercessor who made this book possible, from Laurie Knight to Rita Bingamin and Rita DowCartonio whose support and belief in this work gave it wings and without them, this beautiful work would not have been possible.
But the one I am most grateful for is my mother, who has been the inspiration behind Intercessor’s Heart Ministry, and the work you see before you today. She is the one who faithfully prayed me to Jesus and her prayers will live on, long after her death...Love you Mom!

Signs of Christ Return

It is my usual rutine, to sink deeply into the precious Book of Psalms. Right about now, I would be studying Chapter 11-12, ( maybe more depending upon the theme). But, I have been so overcome with grief on what's been happening on the other side of the world. For many of you have heard about the devestating earthquate and tsunami in Asia and out lining areas. We have yet to know the amount of devestation or how far it will spread.

   Then I was asked what I thought about 2012 prediction in light of these recent disasters. And here is what I basically said, 'that Jesus said, no man knows the day or the hour of His return, not even Him nor the angels in heaven.' (Matthew 24:36-37).
   But, it got me to thinking, why are such god-fearing individuals being sucked into this? More importantly what does God say about this? “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you."For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places." (Matthew 24:3-7). (See also Mark 13:8-13)

So when will Jesus return?  He could return at any day...But, Luke 21 says in verse 20 <span> “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near."

  If you were to put Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 together side by side, you will see the Bible clearly lays out a logical argument that we are in the last days, and but there is no mention of 2012 nor of any man being given a date.

More importantly, (are we looking to the skies, longing for the return of Jesus with power? Is the cry of our hearts: "Come, Lord Jesus!" or is it "Let's wrestle some more," or "Just let me indulge my flesh a little longer, then I'll repent." Will the events of the end of the age strike us with hope and joy, or dread?) Acts 17:11 Ministries.

Even more importantly, lets take time out of our day to pray for those who have suffered such loss, that His hand of judgment would be held off our world so His Word can be preached to every nation.

Psalm 10

There will be times that you will see only a portion of the Psalm, then other times, the whole Psalm with notes; this is one of those times.

Psalm 10

 1 Why, LORD, do you stand far off?
   Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
(Is God distant or do you tend to feel He's far away? Even when you pray? Take heart, even King David felt that way.)
 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
   who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3 He boasts about the cravings of his heart;
   he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
   in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5 His ways are always prosperous;
   your laws are rejected by[b] him;
   he sneers at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
   He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”
 7 His mouth is full of lies and threats;
   trouble and evil are under his tongue.
8 He lies in wait near the villages;
   from ambush he murders the innocent.
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
 9 like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;
   he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
10 His victims are crushed, they collapse;
   they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, “God will never notice;
   he covers his face and never sees.”
(Though the ignorant, wicked and the proud in heart may say such vile things, and scoff at our God; know that their days are numbered!)
 12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God.
   Do not forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?
   Why does he say to himself,
   “He won’t call me to account”?
14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
   you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
   you are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;
   call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
   that would not otherwise be found out.
 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever;
   the nations will perish from his land.
17 You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted;
   you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
   so that mere earthly mortals
   will never again strike terror.
Footnotes:
  1. Psalm 10:1 Psalms 9 and 10 may originally have been a single acrostic poem in which alternating lines began with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. In the Septuagint they constitute one psalm.
  2. Psalm 10:5 See Septuagint; Hebrew / they are haughty, and your laws are far from
Notes: Know this, though our days are evil and growing darker each day, it is God who sees and knows. But He's not just a seeing and knowing God, but one that is faithfully working in each of our lives for our good and His glory.

"Oh God, I pray that You will bless each reader, and lift them up from the pit of discouragement. Place a heavenly sheild around them so that nothing will hinder the transforming work of Jesus Christ in their lives and those closest to them. I lift their burdens up to You and ask that You hear their requests, for we know that if You hear, You will act..Breath new life in each one of us who pray for the church and bless us with hinds feet so that when that day comes, nothing will defeat us, in Jesus' Name I pray. amen"

Where Intercessor's Heart is going and our purpose.

Towards the end of last year, the Lord put on my heart to not only exhort a very neglected segement of the Body, but also learn from one another. And though it has taken many months to get us to this point, we are up and running.

There will be some who believe that Intercessor's Heart is just another prayer ministry, when it's not. We, as intercessor's/prayer warriors are called on day and night to pray for the hurting and needy, this ministry is for you when you need a place of refreshing, or want to just reflect upon what's written.

There is no requirements to be a part of this ministry, all I ask, is that if you are are called to a life of prayer and you feel weary, than please stick around for a while. This ministry was birthed out of my own trials and tribulations to serve others who find themselves also 'giving out of an empty cup.'. Beneath I will lay out a few guidelines of what our goals and purposes are, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

We are:

1) To exhort and to encourage one another. *(this is our primary goal)

2) Learn from one another. As the Lord reveals truth, it's important to share it so we all can be strengthened an encouraged.

3) Praying for one another and for those who are important to us.

4) Journey towards wholeness, so we are fully capable to reach out to a hurting and dying world.

5) Share our testimonies, for many here have a story to tell and many have yet to share their past out of fear or shame. But God wants you to know, that you have been forgiven, that you will never know what your story will do for someone else. For God's Word says, 'They overcame him, by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimonies!' So, its time to come out of the closet and bring your story out into the light. *Those who commit to do this, pray that what is written will glorify God and not man."

We are not:

1) A prayer center, we have many prayer wonderful prayer ministries that God has called, but this ministry is to strengthen those WHO pray. Not that we do not pray for one another and for those who are important to us, but I do not believe the Lord wants us to be so over burdened with praying for others that we aren't getting the refreshing that we need.

2) Not one denomination, but several, for we are all ONE in Christ. I encourage Conservatives as well as Charimatics to find their home here. For God has called intercessors to Assemblies of God and to Conservative Baptists or Methodist.

3) Agenda driven.  We have no agendas, but have two different Bible studies going on at the same time, One; Making Disciples Series, to go back to basics. Many of us are facing persecution in one way or another, and I felt led to share what our Founding For-Fathers have gone through to bring us the Word of God. Making Disciples will be a once a week course until we complete the Book of Acts. Two: A walk through the Psalms the remainder of the time. I know of no more encouraging book than Psalm when I'm feeling low and down.

I pray that you will be blessed by this ministry, if you have any suggestions, please let me know. In the coming days, I will share the Preface and the Introduction to Intercessor's Heart,  I encourage you to, then let me know what you think..

Know that you are loved very very much,

Etta

Making Disciples: Acts Chapter 3

 Acts 3> 1Now Peter and John were(A) going up to the temple at(B) the hour of prayer,(C) the ninth hour.[a] 2And a man(D) lame from birth was being carried,(E) whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate(F) to ask alms of those entering the temple. 3Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 4And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, "Look at us."

'Look at us!' A far cry from, 'I don't know the man!’ (see Luke 22:54-62). As I read these three words, I was taken back at the change. Though I’ve read this before, something was different this time. For God’s spirit quickened me to the need of not just walking with Jesus Christ, but allowing Him flow through every part of our being, for that’s where courage lies. Oh, Peter was saved, but he still was a coward. It wasn’t until the Holy Spirit filled him with power that this obnoxious servant of our Lord was transformed into a bold witness.
When we witness to people, or see someone sick, or in need is our first reaction “look at us?”  Or is it, “hi, my name is……,” in a mousey tone?
Hey, I’m just as guilty as the next man in this area. When I witness, I seek God’s face before I reach out because I never know who I’m talking to and I believe its important to be sensitive especially with all the Christian bashing going on. But, I have to wonder where our Peter’s are and our Paul’s; were they special and unique to the forming of the Church?   Or, are they examples for us to follow today?  In the last two thousand years have we, the Body of Christ, put God in a box which has hindered His move in our time?
Or have we grown lazy and/or fearful, 'will witness if it doesn't bring me pain!' The American condition, comes back to self. The early church was so passionate about Jesus Christ that they were willing to die for him and many in other countries are facing that very thing, persecution and death. Oh we have it easy, but there may come a day when it won't always be so.

Ephesians 5:15-16 (English Standard Version) “ Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16(B) making the best use of the time, because(C) the days are evil. “

Journaling

Journaling> It's 4:30 am and my 8 week old grandson is sleeping in the other room. When I left home, I had something completely different, but, as I got ready to post this, the Holy Spirit overcame and quickened me to the value of journaling. Oh I promise to get back to the Making Disciples Series, but, without my notes there is no way I could do it justice.

The Value of Journaling: Why do I journal? I'm one of 'those' girls who had a diary...In fact, it was my most prized possession, and year after year, I had to have a diary, (with a lock, of course).

Then in my late teens, I stumbled and fell into sin. Not long after that I met and married my first husband.

For years, I was consumed by thie vortex of dysfuntion and sin chosing not only to do my own thing but also refusing to record the events. It was hard enough to live through each day without having a record of it. But what I didn't realize was, at that time, is that was when I needed to journal the most. Where else could I go to be honest with my feelings, that yes, in the midst of all of this my feelings are still important, though I should never be ruled by them. Secondly, I have found that journaling brings clarity in the midst of caos.

But it wasn't until many years later until I started again, with a simple gratitude list. Finding ten things I was grateful for every day. (that was a big stretch for me because at that time my father just passed away and my youngest daughter was addicted to drugs).

From that time on, I never looked back. What journaling has taught me is to stay focused on what really is important, such as giving praise for Who God is, not just for what He can do, also, the value of keeping a record of what the Lord has done which increases my faith. And lastly, it helps me get out all those negative feelings that hinders my walk with Him BEFORE I lift my petitions to a holy God. Negative feeling and thoughts cloud our ability to effectively communicate with our Lord and enables us to forgive from our hearts.

For those who don't joural, I hope this gives you some food for thought, for those who do, I sure like to get your thoughts on how this practice has helped in you and your Christian life.

Ministry Moment

Ministry Moment> We have been going through the Psalm and on a weekly basis we will  take a journey through the lives of our founding forfathers, from imprisionments, beatings, to even death all for the sake of Christ, starting with the Book of Acts. But I could not avoid what God was speaking to my heart this morning, "Behold I am doing a new thing!" (Isaiah 43:19). So I went on a quest, a great adventure of what the Lord was speaking to me through out this whole chapter, not just this one single verse and what I found will delight and amaze you.  In the first few verses He says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." (v2NIV).

And He assures each us to not be afraid, for He will be with us. But, what meant the most to me was this, "Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf." Why? Because many of us have people in our lives who we've been praying for a long time, and God wants us to know, that He is listening, that He has not forgotten us. To keep on praying, as in Luke 18, the widow never gave up and got what she asked for.

Lastly, be praying for this ministry..For though I am stretched really thin, I feel this blog, and compiling this book is vital to what the Lord has called me to do..

For God is faithful to do what He said He will do.

Psalm 8

As we continue on with our study of the Psalm, I challenge you to follow along to see what the Lord will do in and through this study

v1-5

"1 O LORD, our Lord,
   how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory
   above the heavens.
2 From the lips of children and infants
   you have ordained praise[b]
because of your enemies,
   to silence the foe and the avenger.
 3 When I consider your heavens,
   the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
   which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
   the son of man that you care for him?
5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[c]
   and crowned him with glory and honor. (NIV)

Thought for Today: Many of us are facing many challenges, be it health, or family, or even in our finances. Some maybe feeling that they cannot go on any longer unless God steps in and does a miracle. But God says, 'look to Me, and not on our circumstances, for I, even I work all things out for your good and for my glory. You live in a world of sin, so you will struggle against the foe and the avenger, especially those who are doing fiercely loyal.' "For they hated me, know this, they will hate you too." Take heart, you are not alone in this challenge called life, but know this, God's Word is true and promises to turn everything for our good and His glory. Praise be His Holy Name, praise Him, with all you have. Though you may feel like crawling up in a ball and closing out the world, praise Him, for He is worthy!!

Psalm 6

  For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David.
 1 LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger
   or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint;
   heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish.
   How long, LORD, how long?
 4 Turn, LORD, and deliver me;
   save me because of your unfailing love.
5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name.
   Who praises you from the grave?
 6 I am worn out from my groaning.
   All night long I flood my bed with weeping
   and drench my couch with tears.
7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
   they fail because of all my foes.
 8 Away from me, all you who do evil,
   for the LORD has heard my weeping.
9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy;
   the LORD accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;
   they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

Footnotes:
  1. Psalm 6:1 In Hebrew texts 6:1-10 is numbered 6:2-11
  2. Psalm 6:1 Title: Probably a musical term

Thought for Today: Have you ever had a loss so deep that all you could do is weep from the very depths of your soul? I sure have. And have you ever been so hurt, so wounded that you couldn't cry?? A diagnosis of cancer? A spouse dies? An illness that never seems to get better? I want you to know, you are not alone. I know of a precious servant of God, who has these awful migraines and blood pressure problems. When both of them hit, she's basically debilitated. My heart goes out to her because there once was a time in my not so distant past that it was me on that bed, having others care for me. Thank God for my husband Chris who would never leave my side, for fear I'd have another seizure. Oh, I had been prayed for. And yes, I do believe God will heal me, but until then I'm thankful for modern medicine. I'm also thankful for my church family who is right there by our side, knowing that mom won't be around forever. In fact, each day is truly a gift from our Maker.

    John Nelson Hyde (November 9, 1865-February 17, 1912) was an American missionary who preached in the Punjab.
    Born in Illinois, the son of a Presbyterian minister. This minister prayed that God would raise up more missionaries. John Hyde passed college and became a member of the faculty. Strangly, he resigned and entered into McCormick Theological Seminary<?></Needs one.>. His elder brother Edmund was also in the seminary. Edmund dreamt of being a preacher, so in pursuit of this dream he went to preach in Montana but suddenly died of a fever. John wondered if he would take his brother's place. In his senior year he asked a fellow student, Mr. Konkle, for his argument supporting missionary work. That night he decided to become a missionary at last.
    He came to believe that God was calling him to India. He departed to India in 1892 to preach in the Punjab region. While he was heading to Punjab, he read a letter from a friend who said he would ask God to fill John with the Holy Spirit. Angry at the suggestion that he did not already have the Spirit he threw it away. However he then humbled himself and prayed to God for help.
    As he was partially deaf he struggled to learn the native languages. Also while in India he continued to focus his study mostly on scripture. His mission at first gained few converts, and endured persecution. So he began to pray very intensely. From 1899 he began to spend entire nights in prayer to God. Starting in 1904 he began to attend a conference at Sialkot. He formed the Punjab Prayer Union, the members of which set aside half an hour a day to prayer for spiritual revival. In 1908 he told the conference his dream that there would be one conversion a day. A year later over 400 more converts had been made. He came to be called 'Praying Hyde' for his passionate prayers to reached lost souls. Near the end of Hyde's life, it was discovered that he was very unwell. His heart had moved from its normal position (in the left) to the right. He went home to America. He died there, in February 1912. His last words were "Shout the victory of Jesus Christ!"

    Principals:
    1) Am I praying for quickening in my own life, in the life of my family members, fellow-workers, and the Church?

     2) Am I longing for greater power of the Holy Spirit in my own life and work and am I convinced that you cannot go on without this power?

     3) Will you pray that you may not be ashamed of Jesus?

     4) Do you believe that prayer is the great means for securing this spiritual awakening?

      5) Will you set apart one half hour each day for this awakening and are you willing to p ray till this awakening comes?
